In these pages, I write about personal development as a means to professional development.
What do you do when you feel anxious? Usually I walk. First, I might agonize or sweat or ruminate or get angry, but it almost always ends up with finding myself on a walk. Sometimes it’s a defined distance, to a shop or store, a location, or destination, or sometimes I walk the lake until I come full circle, which has it’s own kind of poetry. Most times I walk until. Until it doesn’t feel tight in my chest any more, until my shoulders relax, until the knot in my stomach loosens, until I can breathe regularly and deeply again. Sometimes I walk in reaction to events, other times I walk in anticipation of events, other times I walk preventatively, just in case. I’ve walked labyrinths before and find them enchanting. They’re just captivating in their ability to control your movements in subtle or not so subtle ways. I find their cunning paths disarming. There isn’t a lot of control you can maintain walking a labyrinth and I find that letting go and letting yourself into the process, being part of that process helps let go on an even deeper level. This labryinth at San Damiano is one of my favorites.
